{Sewing: July Projects}

August 1, 2018 by kelerr

Looking at this blog, you would think I’ve turned all my attention to reading lately, which is so far from the case it’s laughable.  It’s just that I’m determined to complete that reading challenge and to do so the same way that I’ve done the past ones: by writing posts about it.  My reading time, however, is actually very limited.  Even though I’m off for the summer and not working, between driving upstate and seeing friends and doing various activities, […]

{Out and About: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child}

July 19, 2018 by kelerr

Ten months ago tickets were released for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child; the smash hit from London was finally coming to Broadway!  Ten months ago I bought inordinately expensive tickets to see this spectacular.  For ten months I waited.  And waited.  And waited.  Until the day finally arrived.  I finally got to see the next installment in the Harry Potter series! I put on my new Vintage Shirt Dress (made by me!) and headed into the city. I wanted […]

{Out and About: Mean Girls}

June 15, 2018 by kelerr

Last night I finally got to see Mean Girls on Broadway!  Note how I say finally like it’s been out for four years instead of four months… but when it comes to Tina Fey projects, three months is a long time for me to wait and believe me, it took a lot of self control not to buy tickets the minute they were released.    However, I waited.  I joined lotteries to win free tickets until finally they released the […]

{Costume Design: Cogsworth from Beauty and the Beast}

April 9, 2018 by kelerr

Cogsworth was the second character that came to me fully formed, costume-wise.  I knew exactly what my plan was, and though it got tweaked here and there as we were going along, he ended up looking exactly like what I pictured when I originally started doing my designs. The first step was planning.  For months I had asked my coworkers to send me cardboard that they would otherwise be throwing out, and as a result I had tons to choose […]

{Costume Design: The Silly Girls from Beauty and the Beast}

April 6, 2018 by kelerr

Every year, there are some characters who seem very simple on the surface but it takes me forever to come up with a costume idea.  This year those characters were the Silly Girls (a.k.a. the “groupies” who follow Gaston around everywhere he goes).  In the end, I took inspiration from both the animated and live action versions.  I liked that the characters in the animated version wore matching dresses, but I also liked that in the live-action they wore different […]

{Costume Design: Mrs. Potts & Chip from Beauty and the Beast}

April 3, 2018 by kelerr

For whatever reason, two of the most challenging costumes came to me immediately.  Mrs. Potts was one of those.  As soon as I knew we were doing Beauty and the Beast I knew I wanted to fashion a oblong teapot, and I knew I could do it with hoop skirts.  The original intention had been to construct them myself, but they weren’t very expensive so ended up buying two and working with that. I found the fabric I wanted at Materials for […]

{Shaker and Spoon: Death By Gin}

March 3, 2018 by kelerr

The beginning of February meant a new Shaker and Spoon box. This month the spirit of choice was gin, aptly named Death by Gin. I was excited because the last two have both been whiskey-based (which I love, but was looking forward to trying something else).  When the box arrived, I opened it up to see what I was in store for.  I tend to keep it a surprise more or less.  Although Shaker and Spoon does describe its cocktails […]

{Shaker and Spoon: Rye, Oh My!}

January 31, 2018 by kelerr

In January, I continued my mixology education with Shaker and Spoon. The theme of the month’s box was “Rye Oh My!” and all the drinks featured rye whiskey. No complaints here. The box arrived with a little less fanfare than last time but was still exciting to open. I love finding and pulling out all the little bottles and syrups. (Sidebar: the box also arrived the exact same day as my new portable photography light box so I immediately started […]

{Makeup Review: Besame Cosmetics Lipstick}

January 23, 2018 by kelerr

I am completely obsessed with Besame Cosmetics lipstick. Like so much so that I tried a few samples and now own four of their full size lipsticks, all within a seven day span of time. Before we get into my full review, though, here’s a little bit of background: I got really into wearing red lipstick while I was in Europe over the summer. I’ve never been one for wearing lipstick very much (aside from Halloween costumes) but as with […]
