{The City Toile Dress: Part One}

August 28, 2017 by kelerr

After an extremely lazy morning yesterday, I got started on my latest: the city toile dress.  This was a dress I had in the works for a while, in varying stages.  I picked the fabric a long time ago, another one from Rifle Paper Co that I coveted for a long time before finally buying. Fabric in hand, I originally planned to make the same shirt dress as my flamingo dress, but I ended up finding another pattern I wanted to try. […]

{Chantilly & Rosa Dresses: Finishing Work}

August 27, 2017 by kelerr

My last two dresses went together so easily I barely stopped to take pictures of the progress.  The Chantilly dress is now completely finished and the Rosa dress will soon follow.  I did manage to get a few pictures of the finishing up progress. Let’s start with the Chantilly. This dress suffered a bit due to my error in judgement when it came to the lining.  It was supposed to have a full skirt lining, but I decided to skip […]

{The Rosa Dress: Part One}

August 26, 2017 by kelerr

The Rosa Dress has been on my “to sew” list for a while now.  I’ve had both the fabric and the pattern on hand, ready to go but have been waiting.  For what, I couldn’t tell you but I finally decided to wait no more!  I wanted to put this dress together. I started with the bodice, of course.  It consisted of this center piece with bust darts which got attached to the two side pieces creating diagonal, shaping seams. […]

{The Chantilly Dress: Part One}

August 25, 2017 by kelerr

Normally I name my dresses after the fabric I’m using but in this case I went with the pattern.  I veered away from the major pattern companies and finally tried out the Chantilly Pattern from Colette Patterns.  The last time I attempted it, I stopped while doing the yoke because something about it was off and my skills were just not what they are currently.  However I still loved the pattern and I knew it would work perfectly with some rayon […]

{Upcoming Projects}

August 24, 2017 by kelerr

Cutting out patterns and fabric is usually the step that makes me procrastinate the most at the beginning of a project.  It’s not particularly difficult but I always dread it for some reason.  I think it has to do with making sure I keep the pattern organized as I work and making sure all the pieces are together.  Sometimes it’s just easier to have a “cutting day,” in which I take all my fabric and patterns and cut out my […]

{Travel Tales: Malta & Italy, Part Twenty – Two Households, Both Alike in Dignity}

August 22, 2017 by kelerr

“Two households, both alike in dignity, In fair Verona, where we lay our scene, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. From forth the fatal loins of these two foes A pair of star-cross’d lovers take their life; Whose misadventur’d piteous overthrows Doth with their death bury their parents’ strife. The fearful passage of their death-mark’d love, And the continuance of their parents’ rage, Which, but their children’s end, nought could remove, Is […]

{Travel Tales: Malta & Italy, Part Nineteen – A Wild Boar Meat Assortment}

August 21, 2017 by kelerr

(The strange title of this post will become clear towards the end.) Our final day of the trip we had a tour planned for Verona for the majority of the day, so on our last full day in Venice we wanted to make it count.  It was time to see all the major tourist attractions starting with arguably the most famous: St. Mark’s.  We also strategically planned our day to attempt to avoid a looming rainstorm, which would be the […]

{Travel Tales: Malta & Italy, Part Eighteen – Exploring the Venetian Lagoon}

August 20, 2017 by kelerr

Get yourself ready for pictures galore because this is the day we hit the most colorful town in Italy – Burano – and it was a photographer’s dream land.  Of course, there were multitudes of other things to see, so we’ll get to Burano shortly. The breakfast at the Venice hotel was my least favorite so far, however I will give them points for having prosecco and orange juice (though I never did get the chance to make myself a […]

{Travel Tales: Malta & Italy, Part Seventeen – Getting Lost in Venice}

August 19, 2017 by kelerr

Everyone says that the best way to see Venice is to just get lost. They were right. Truth be told, there’s no real way to actually BE lost in Venice.  It’s not that big, and all the major landmarks are extremely well marked, with signs pointing in their direction.  But there’s something to be said of just wandering the winding streets, finding a dead-end and backtracking, crossing the countless bridges and seeing the canals and trying to avoid the tourist […]
