{Eating: A Birthday Dinner}

August 25, 2011 by kelerr

“Just give me champagne and good food and I’m in heaven and love.” – Marilyn Monroe Last night, my cousins and I prepared a birthday dinner for my sister.  In what we have decided is the new tradition, she chose the menu and we bought and prepared all the food.  Our day began early, with a trip to Fairway, and then Katherine and I got to work on the lavish meal. For this evening’s feast we had bacon wrapped scallops, […]

{Out and About: Romeo and Juliet at the Park Avenue Armory}

August 15, 2011 by kelerr

This summer, the Royal Shakespeare Company did a six week residency in New York City at the Park Avenue Armory as part of the Lincoln Center Festival. Naturally, being a lover of all things Shakespeare (well, at least the performances; I’ve actually recently discovered I like watching adaptations of Shakespeare much more than I like reading the plays), I had to check it out. I was pleased to see that they were performing Romeo and Juliet, one of my favorites […]

{Reading: The Girl Who Disappeared Twice, by Andrea Kane}

August 5, 2011 by kelerr

On my way back from Maine a few weeks ago, we stopped to go to the bathroom – at a Barnes & Noble, of all places. I, not actually needing the bathroom, went into the store to stretch my legs and grab some coffee. I swear I was not in the store for ten minutes total (waiting for the others to use the bathroom), but I left with a new book. (I make quick work of Barnes & Noble and […]

{Eating: Impromptu Strawberry Pie}

August 4, 2011 by kelerr

Last night, my grandparents, cousin, sister and mom came over for dinner.  Admittedly, I forgot they were coming, so when my sister reminded me in the middle of the day, I scrambled to get supplies to make an easy dinner.  Picking out the main course was easy – sauteed chicken cutlets, steamed spinach with garlic and oil and mushrooms with mustard sauce (to top the chicken with).  However, I make it a policy to always have dessert, preferably homemade, whenever […]

The Secret Lives of Dresses, by Erin McKean

June 23, 2011 by kelerr

It seemed only natural that I The Secret Lives of Dresses, by Erin McKean, would fall into my lap. Recommended to me because of my recent reading of A Vintage Affair, I was immediately drawn to the idea of a young woman who takes over her grandmother’s vintage dress store and discovers that many of the dresses have “secret lives,” stories about them written from the point-of-view of the dress. Each dress has it’s own story, though it can only […]

Bossypants, by Tina Fey

June 18, 2011 by kelerr

Tina Fey is a freaking genius.  I call her my fictional best friend.  I truly believe that we would get along swimmingly if we were ever to meet, and therefore it was no question that I would read her book, Bossypants, as soon as it came out.  I was not disappointed. I can’t say enough good things about Bossypants, so I’ll simply let a few quotes speak for themselves. While responding to some less-than-positive fan who called her an ‘overrated […]

Travel Tales: Paris 2003, Part One

April 21, 2011 by kelerr

My first trip to Europe came as a pleasant surprise. It was in 2003, the year I graduated from college. Rather than give me money, my grandparents handed me a travel brochure for Go Ahead Tours and said, “Pick one.” The only requirement was that I find a travel companion willing to pay his or her own way (which I did, thanks to a willing-to-travel sister and a generous father who helped pay half of her ticket). To this day, […]

Recommended Reading: Juliet, by Anne Fortier

February 6, 2011 by kelerr

I have been up way too late the past two nights, not because I was out doing awesome things or getting myself into trouble, but because I couldn’t put a book down.  Once again, a novel has peaked my interest so much that I  spent hours on it the past two nights determined to finish it so I could see how the whole thing ended. The book was called Juliet, and it was written by Anne Fortier.  I was initially […]

A Very Fancy Christmas

December 26, 2010 by kelerr

Christmas has come and gone once again, and as usual it was a blur of activity that started with a work holiday party and ended with the family gathering at my mom’s house for our traditional Christmas celebration, slightly backwards to accommodate for a family that just keeps on getting bigger.  With these new additions, changes must be made and therefore we moved our Christmas celebration to Christmas day rather than our traditional Christmas Eve. As seems to happen every […]
